Put your sounds on the map!

Sounding Urban Places invites you to participate in a research project concerned with the experience of sound in Kiruna and the Binckhorst. These are places in transformation and we are curious about how you experience these changes. How does listening reveal changes in the environment? What sounds are new? Are there sounds that have disappeared? What sounds do you like or dislike?

Whether you live or work there, or just visit and find sounds you wish to share, you are invited to participate by recording sounds and uploading these to the map. We are particularly interested in your personal experience of the sound and the place where it was recorded. In the map, it is possible to add written descriptions and comments, but also, to tag the recorded sound with selective descriptive words.

Step 2

  • + Upload sound

Once you have created an account, you can upload a sound. The maximum file size is 64 MB. Please be aware that the upload may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the file.

In the menu, choose + Upload sound

Give your sound a title and describe what you hear or like about it. How does it influence your experience of the environment? What does it evoke in you?

You can upload your sound file (e.g. wav, mp3 or m4a) from your computer or mobile.

Select the city and neighbourhood (area) where you recorded the sound. Also, indicate the year of recording. Place the pin on the Google map.

Choose one or more descriptors for your sound from the list

You can also upload a photo, e.g. of the place where you recorded your sound.
If you don't have a photo, leave this field blank. A stand-in image from Sound Up will then appear automatically.
